OBS OBS:
Sunday 2014-05-25
Start: TJ/TEDA at 8:00
MP: JiXian Roundabout 9:45
MTB-A: (H3, T2)
68 km, a long route, and unfortunately some part of it is on Tarmac/concrete due to progress of the roads in the rural areas. We start with a 6 km climb and end with the identical descent.
We also have to drag the bikes a couple of times, almost impossible to avoid in JiXian, and it has actually been an indication of a real explorer trip.

MTB-A: (H1, T1)
31 km, going out, turn around, and go the same way back again. So yoiu can't get lost. In this way, you can basically decide by yourself how far you will ride. Not a technical route, but it starts with 6 km up hill. Sorry.

Pan Shan Bike And Hike

When: Friday to Sunday September 5 to 7.
Where: Marriot Hotel JiXian, Pan Shan Mt.
Hike and Bike
We are 11+ people going to Pan Shan/JiXian area next weekend.
The weather will be warm, no surprise, but maybe it will be slightly cooler (28 C) in the mountains.

We have made this plan for the weekend. It is not mandatory.

(With everybody with smartphone it could be an idea to install
GLYMPSE, then we can actually find each other, it is sometimes a little tricky in the mountains in China.)

Suggested Plan from JiMma's Travel:

  • Friday:
Meet at Marriot Hotel in JiXian in the afternoon/evening.
    Link to Map
  • It is a brand new, do I have to tell you, big, hotel started up in May this year.
For more info, see this Link.

  • Get the rooms etc.

  • Saturday
    • Saturday morning we will go to Pan Shan Mt. Here we have two options to come to the top. Either walk the whole way, or take the cable car part of the way. It's up to you.
    • Evening: Dinner at Marriot Hotel
  • Sunday,
    • Bike, tennis or relax.
    • We make a road bike tour Sunday morning 90 km/750 HM.
See under Future Bike Trips #21
    • Or you can relax at the Hotel, pool, Spa, Sauna. And Carsten, they have tennis.
    • Check out before 14:00.

    • Marriot Hotel has a two nights promotion.
      1450 RMB. Incl. breakfast.
      Dinner buffet 225 RMB person
(For kids below 120 cm, the dinner is free)

FYI:
You have to book the Hotel by yourself..... Better do as fast as possible, due to Moon festival this weekend.
Use this number 022 2917 9999 for reservation. Remember to mention you want a two night. (First night is 950 RMB, second night is half price).
You can always call Emma if you have problems +86 138 2126 2259

I guess we all know what a Chinese holiday means (Moon Festival weekend).
Well for those who don't, you will find out.

Jin Shan Ling Bike And Hike

When: Friday to Sunday May 30 to June 1.
Where: Jin Shan Ling
Hike and Bike
We are 11+ people going to Jin Shan Ling next weekend. The weather will be warm, no surprise, but maybe it will be slightly cooler (34 C) in the mountains.

We are trying to arrange a BBQ for saturday evening, but the hotel would like to know, how many, and how much, so they can arrange.

So first, please reply to me, if you want to join the barbecue or not, and appr. how many sticks you want (The hotel ask for that :-)). They don't ask how many beer you can drink.

  • Number of person for BBQ
  • Approx. how many BBQ sticks you want (5 RMB/Stick) and with what kind of meet:
    Beef
    Chicken
    Lamb
    Pork
    Sausages

I have made this plan for the weekend. It is not mandatory, but I will update the webpage with map info and pictures so you can decide what you want. Please inform yourself about destinations etc. depending on your choice.

(With everybody with smartphone it could be an idea to install
GLYMPSE, then we can actually find each other, it is sometimes a little tricky in the mountains in China.)

Suggested Plan from JiMma's Travel:

  • Meet in Jin Shan Ling Hotel friday evening (We know Janni will come saturday).
    Link to Meeting Point
  • Get the rooms etc.
  • Saturday:
    • Walk the wall. Maybe somebody wants to get up early to see the sunrise….
    • Evening: Probably BBQ or CN dishes, cold beer, cold coke and red wine.
  • Sunday, Simatai:
    • We drive to a small village, app. 40 km from Jin Shan Ling Hotel, and from here we hike up the mountain wall to the old Simatai Great Wall part. I can not guarantee it is possible, it is China and a lot of things happens.
    • For bikers: I have made a track going from the hotel to the village, so it is an option. It will be MTB on hard surface (MTB, because I have no clue how the roads are up there)
  • Sunday, NO Simatai:
    • No plans
    • For bikers: I have made a track around the Jin Shan Ling area. It will be MTB on hard surface (MTB, because I have no clue how the roads are up there)
  • OBS:
    • It might be a good idea to bring some western food, especially for breakfast, and we could also bring some beers and red wine etc., just in case.

See Pictures from the area (These I did not take)

Bike and Bike weekend

When: OBS: May 10. and 11. 2014
Where: West of Beijing. Up to Dong Ling Shan
Bike Type: Road
Distance: Day 1: 128 km, Day 2: 120 km
Sign-in Dead Line: April 20. 2014
This is actually a bike weekend arranged by Beijing Pelotons.
I have talked with Jan, from BP, and we can participate, I just need to coordinate with him. I told him, that we probably will drive from Tianjin to start point ourselves.
Here is the link to their website: Beijing Pelotons.

We will try to make some Hiking on own Tianjin initiative, depending on the interest.

It will be a la filling up one car with hikers, drive to the top, and you can do your hiking, and the bikers will come later. Hikers can make a small additional hike sunday morning, when the bikers are heading back to end point in Beijing.
This is not 100% settled, but we find a way.

Here is the info from Beijing Peloton:

True to Peloton tradition, we will organize another superb cycling weekend (1 night) loop around the famous Dong Ling Shan
东灵山 peak on May 10-11.
At 2300m it is Beijing’s highest peak.
Do not underestimate the ride. Physically, it's tough. Around 120 km in 30 degrees over 3-4 massive climbs...Not everyone will be able to finish the ride under their own power. But you don't have to: a jinbei will be there to provide transit assistance. Just do what you can at your own tempo. Focus on finishing the ride in style; not on speed.

Final costs are to be determined, but were around 500 CNY last year.

The schedule

Subscribe by mail before April 30th ( depending on response, the first batch will be limited to 24 people max. )

May 10th @ 6h30am : assemble at the usual Trek Store; we take the busses for a two hour drive to Zhangfang in Beijing’s far southwest. One or two jinbei vans will follow the A and B/C riders respectively all the way to the hotel near the summit, where we will spend the night after around 115 – 125km in the legs.

(Check out the route for
ride A and ride B)

May 11th : Get up early to hike up to the peak of the Donglingshan or sleep a little longer before the ride back (another 90km to 120km). Depending on finishing times, we should make it back to Beijing in the late afternoon / early evening.

More details will follow, check some photos from 2013 here.

Hiking
Distance:
A-Team: 40-45 km
B-Team: 20-30 km
Hiking: 12 km (optional 7 km)
OBS:
It is necessary for the participants to be aware of the routes and tracks.

IT IS YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND THE TRACKS AND NOT GET LOST

A GPS device is highly recommended. A smartphone with appropriates apps can be used as well (ex. Everytrail or similar).
Every year we are celebrating the coming of the spring by doing a La Primavera trip. The name comes from Italy, and means something like, Spring Is Coming. See the report from La Primavera 2013.

It is also the name of the pro-tour classic ride Milano - San Remo, which is always held around march 20.

About the area and the trip:
A classical tour, that is not too hard, and has the possibility to make some detours. It is a very good beginners tour for new-comers to China, because it has small mountains to ride, cosy small villages to see, and then the cultural Eastern Qing Tombs area. An amazing memorial of the last Emperor dynasty of China.
